When Mailgun is the better fit
- You need a free-forever plan: Mailgun gives 100 emails a day with no card.
- You send about 50,000 emails a month and want to pay month by month: Foundation costs €32, less than our €35.02.
- You don't want a fixed-term plan: our lowest prices are on the annual plan.
- You're a developer and need lots of API features: SDKs, inbound email, subaccounts, IP pools.
- You need extra tools in the same place: address validation, delivery tests, previews.
When SMTP Senpai is the better fit
- You want support from real people in English and Italian, on every plan.
- You need to see what happened weeks ago: 90 days of sending log, versus 1 to 30 days.
- You send 20,000 or 100,000 emails a month: €22.90 and €43.10 on the annual plan, versus €31 and €69.
- You want to choose: stop, or continue in blocks of 1,000, up to the cap you set.
- You want an EU invoice in euro, with VAT handled for EU businesses (reverse charge with a valid VAT number).
- You have a contact form on your website: the address for the form is included.

How much does Mailgun cost in 2026?
As of 7 October 2026, excluding VAT: Basic €14 a month for 10,000 emails, Foundation €32 for 50,000 and €69 for 100,000, Scale €82 for 100,000. Extra emails are charged separately, from €1.70 to €1.00 per 1,000. There is also a Free plan with 100 emails a day.
Does Mailgun keep data in the EU?
You can choose the EU region (Germany) when you create a domain: messages and logs stay there. Some account data (users, invoices, API keys) is replicated globally. A domain created in the US cannot be moved: it has to be created again.
How long can I see the logs?
On Mailgun 1 day with Free and Basic, 5 with Foundation, 30 with Scale. On SMTP Senpai 90 days, with the reason for every bounce, also via API.
What happens if I exceed my monthly volume?
On Mailgun extra emails are charged automatically, but you can set a monthly cap that stops sending. On SMTP Senpai you choose: «Stop», with no charge, or «Continue» in blocks of 1,000 up to the spending cap you set.
Do I need to rewrite my code to switch to SMTP Senpai?
If you use SMTP, no: you change server, port, username and password. If you use the Mailgun HTTP API, you adapt the call to our API or switch to SMTP.
